I happened to come across a new server over the weekend. Previously, xtego had been using a desktop computer as our server, which was just barely keeping up with our needs. It was also Curtis’s computer. I had been trying to get my own server, a retired server from one of IMC’s clients for some time now and I finally got the one that I wanted. This thing is a beast of a machine. Here are the specs:

2 3.06 Ghz Xeon processors (with hyper-threading)
2 GB RAM
18 GB RAID1 OS Partition (2 15k drives)
135 GB RAID5 Data Partition (5 15k drives)

Those are the highlights of the machine. I took the task of migrating everything to the new server. It took a little bit more than expected to migrate everything, but it is basically done now. I’m really impressed with the machine though. It would be nice if it had more memory and more storage, but I can’t really complain. After all, I got a 10 thousand dollar server for free. You can’t beat that. Now I just need a better UPS. Our current one says it will provide about 2 minutes of protection if the power were to go out.
